Marketing/advertising an event

Advertising your event is very important if you want many people to turn up. There are many different ways to market your event depending on the market you want to reach. For example, if you want the younger generation to attend, you should advertise it on social media the most.

Have a unique selling point to your event. Your USP could be a special guest or even the reason this event is occurring. Including this will captivate the public to your event.

You should be very consistent and persistent when advertising because people easily forget about it unless it’s everywhere.

Social Media

-Have an account that is designated to promoting and talking about your event so people know that your event is legitimate. The higher the followers the more engagement and the more people will see it

-Create a hashtag and incorporate into everything you post. Reinforcing a hashtag lets it stay on top of people minds and it’s easier for the public to recognise. Have one or 2 designated hashtags instead of overdoing it with too many at once. Use this hashtag any opportunity you get and people will start using it too

-Make sure you have a good bio that describes your event the best and don’t forget your hashtag too!

-There are so many different social media platforms that you can use like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat and many more

-If you have any special guests or any performers make sure they promote your event as well as using the hashtag and tagging you in each post that is about your event

-Have special promotions, ideas, competitions and exclusive previews often to keep your engagement high and people talking about your event.

Leaflets

-When making a leaflet make sure you include every detail the receiver needs in specific the location, date, time etc. Make sure you also include your unique selling point to attract people to it. Don’t forget to include all your social media and hashtags as well.

-Have your leaflets made very professional so that people know your event/brand is legitimate.

-Be careful with the colours you use. Have a set colour scheme that goes with your brand so that it looks put together.

-Make sure all the information is correct and the grammar is well written. Small things like this can put people off your event so just be careful.

-Hand out your leaflets on busy streets like a shopping centre or just post them in the door for a more direct approach. Avoid the houses that have a no junk mail sign.

Posters

-Make your poster eye-catching to draw and intrigue people to look at it.

-Ask different business or shops to hang them up to promote your event further.

-Hang your posters up at busy points like a bus station or near a traffic light. Places like these people are more or less forced to look at so they are good options

-Don’t forget to have your social media and hashtags included in also.

-I would recommend you to have one or max two poster designs to hang, as if they are all different people might not observe they are the same event. Simple is the best option.

-When hanging your posters be conscious of the weather as if it’s raining your posters will be destroyed before anyone got to see it.

Newspaper/Radio/Newsletter

-Attract attention to your project by using social media. In most cases, they will approach you to come and talk about your event.

There are many other ways to promote an event but they are the most common and effective. There are a lot of things to keep in mind but if all executed well your event will exceed expectations.

Newspaper/ radio/ local newsletters- parish/ attend local meetings where you can verbally tell people- reach the elderly

Surveys

When making a survey start by planning out what questions you would like to ask. Make a list of questions you would like to ask and pick the most important questions you would like to know the answers to. Type and print out your questions. Then go down to a busy part of your area where a lot of the local residents would be. Ask people when they are walking by if they would like to take part in your survey. If they say yes ask them each question and write down each answer. With the information, you have gathered make a bar or pie chart to share to your social media to show the community how people in the area feel.
